About Mark

I grew up in Minneapolis. I spent my formative years growing up less than a mile from the border of the City in St. Louis Park. The Minneapolis downtown skyline always shimmering close enough to touch.

My early years were spent studying hard, playing varsity football and jogging whenever I had a chance down to Bde Maka Ska. I graduated from the University of Minnesota (Twin Cities), where I was active in student government as an activist and elected as a Student Senator. In fact when I formed Global One Commercial and started my career as a commercial real estate developer – those days of trying to work through the University of Minnesota’s difficult decision making process and lumbering bureaucracy – frankly were a great training ground.

Commercial real estate development is not for the faint of heart. It takes a great deal of tenacity and creativity and the mindset to never give up. There are many challenges a developer faces as they try to quarterback a project through a city. It is about managing many actors at the same time. The stakeholders in the community, neighbors, government and financial interests.  The entire endeavor is both a rewarding and complex undertaking.

One thing I have learned over the years is that nothing that is worthwhile is ever easy. There are no shortcuts. It always tends to be the hard way when solving a problem.  “Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work” said America’s greatest inventor Thomas A. Edison. It has been my experience in life and with my work – that a person must stay true to their convictions to get a job properly done.

The City of Minneapolis is not a development project. However this City needs work in many areas and it needs many problems solved. I can bring this discipline and philosophy of hard work and problem solving and working with people to the job of Minneapolis Mayor.

I can guarantee one thing . . . I will never give up on something I believe in and I believe in the City of Minneapolis.
